New Year's Revelers Advised to Wrap Up Warm with Wintry Weather Forecast Throughout the UK
Forecasters are saying a frosty commencement to the new year, with snowfall likely throughout a lot of the UK. Revelers have been told to wrap up as sub-zero temperatures are expected for New Year's Eve.
Festive Plans Proceed Amid Warnings
The Scottish capital's renowned Hogmanay events are set to take place, unlike last year's calling-off. This is in spite of advisories for snow across northern Scotland.
"A chilly New Year's Eve evening for those who are celebrating, so warmer clothes will be needed," noted the weather service.
Displays Under Open but Cold Skies
In other parts of the UK, the weather is set to be perfect for fireworks displays, with a lack of precipitation and good visibility. Temperatures are expected to be cold, so extra layers essential, said forecasters.
In more northern areas, skies will be cloudier, but this is not anticipated to hamper visibility for viewing fireworks. "We are not looking at low cloud, mist or murk, so you ought to be able to see fireworks, just not stars," added one forecaster.
Widespread Snow Warnings for New Year's Day
As we enter Friday, snow alerts have been issued across Northern Ireland and extending from Wales, through the north-west, the West Midlands and through to London and the majority of the south-east of England.

The Mercury Expected to Plummet Further
With the start of 2026, it will be "chilly no matter where you are," commented forecaster Simon Partridge. Temperatures are set to drop further as snowfall and high winds are predicted to batter the north of the country.
About 10cm of snow is forecast to have settled in some areas by Friday morning, reaching up to 30cm on the top roads and uplands.
Public Health Alerts Issued
Meanwhile, amber cold health alerts are in force for the north-east and north-west of England. These are expected to stay active until noon on 5 January, with readings likely to fall to between 3C and 5C.
The health agency stated this indicated the weather was likely to cause notable consequences across the NHS and care systems. This involves a likely increase in the mortality rate among those with health conditions or those 65 and older.
